Quick answer

A motorcycle jack scissor lift passes this checker’s three listed-spec checks when three things line up: your bike plus gear weighs no more than its rated capacity, its lowest height slides under your frame, and its top height reaches your lift point. Enter your numbers below to check them against 22 listed motorcycle lifts and jacks. Passing these checks does not confirm platform size, lift-point compatibility or any other physical fit factor.

How to use the motorcycle jack fit checker

  1. Pick lb or kg, then enter your bike’s weight from the owner’s manual.
  2. Choose the weight basis. Curb (wet) weight includes fluids. If your manual only gives dry weight, add fuel, oil and other fluids under added gear yourself; the tool does not supply fluid weights.
  3. Enter added gear: saddlebags, racks, accessories and any fluids not in the listed weight. Leave it blank for 0.
  4. Pick in or mm, then enter your frame clearance: with the bike upright on level ground, measure from the floor to the lowest point of the frame or lift point the jack platform must slide under.
  5. Enter the desired lift height: how high above the ground you want the lift point when raised.
  6. Press Check fit. Switching units mid-entry shows your values in the new unit; the check keeps using exactly what you typed until you edit a field.

The result shows your total weight in both units, how many listed jacks pass all three checks, and a table of matches with each jack’s rated capacity, height range, your load as a percentage of its rating, and the listing fields its specs were read from. If nothing passes, you see the jacks that fail just one check, with that check named. If you leave frame clearance blank, clearance reads “not checked” and no jack can be shown as a fit.

The three checks behind the result

The tool compares the values exactly as you entered them and rounds only for display, including after a unit switch. Weights convert with 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg exactly, and lengths with 1 in = 25.4 mm exactly.

  • Capacity: total weight = bike weight + added gear. Passes if total weight is at or below the jack’s rated capacity. A total exactly at the rating passes. No extra margin is applied, because none is published in our sources.
  • Clearance: passes if the jack’s minimum height is at or below your frame clearance.
  • Height: passes if the jack’s maximum height is at or above your desired lift height.

Example: a bike at 800 lb with 50 lb of added gear, 5 in of frame clearance and a 14 in lift target.

Specs as listed, read 2026-10-12. In this example 15 of 22 listed jacks pass all three checks.

What a scissor lift spec sheet leaves out

Listings for a motorcycle scissor lift usually give a rated capacity and a lift range. They rarely mention frame clearance, which is why a jack with a generous top height can still be unusable: if its collapsed height is taller than the gap under your frame, it will not slide in. Low cruisers and bikes with exhaust or skid plates near the lift point are where this shows up first.

The checker also does not look at platform size, where your bike’s lift points are, stability once raised, tie-downs, the floor surface, or the maker’s own loading instructions. Those come from the jack’s manual and your bike’s service manual. Set no lift, stand, chock or hoist limit beyond the maker’s rating and manual and ASME PASE.

Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. A 1998 NHTSA research note on CPSC emergency-room data from November 1994 to October 1995 (old data) found: “Approximately three-fourths (74%) of the persons injured in motor vehicle jack failures were injured as a result of being struck by the vehicle as it fell from the jack.” In NIOSH FACE report 99CA006 (1999), which involved a 37,500 lb transit bus on shop-made jack stands rather than a car or motorcycle, “A 48-year old male mechanic (decedent) died when he was crushed by a bus that fell off jack stands.” Its recommendation: “ensure employees use only tools and equipment that have been tested, certified and rated.” Neither source gives a US fatality count for jacks or jack stands, and we know of no official one.

Methodology & sources

We started from a marketplace shelf snapshot dated 2026-09-27 for the query “motorcycle jack” and kept non-sponsored, priced listings, deduplicated by ASIN. Filtering titles to motorcycle, ATV and dirt-bike lifts or jacks (dropping paddock and combo stands, maintenance stands and car floor jacks) left 41 listings. For each, we read rated capacity, minimum height and maximum height from the product listing on 2026-10-12. 22 listings state all three values with no contradiction between fields (tolerance 0.15 in or 1%). We excluded 8 listings whose page contradicts itself and 11 that leave out a minimum or maximum height. No prices or bike weights are stored; your inputs never leave your browser.

FAQ

Does a motorcycle scissor lift replace jack stands?

No. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Follow the maker’s manual and the ASME PASE safety standard for how to support the bike once it is lifted.

Which weight should I enter from my owner’s manual?

Use the curb (wet) weight if your manual lists it. If you only have the dry weight, add fuel, oil and other fluids under added gear, along with saddlebags and accessories.

How do I measure frame clearance?

With the bike upright on level ground, measure from the floor to the lowest point of the frame or lift point that the jack platform must slide under. The jack’s listed minimum height must be at or below that number.

Does the tool add a safety margin to the rated capacity?

No. No margin is sourced, so a total at or below the listed rating passes. The maker’s rating and manual and ASME PASE govern actual use.

Where do the jack specs come from?

Each rated capacity, minimum height and maximum height was read from the product’s marketplace listing, identified by ASIN, on 2026-10-12. The spec source table names the listing fields used. Listings that contradicted themselves or left a value out were excluded.
